An alternate technique for shaping the toe and the heel in toe to cuff socks uses a combination of decreases and unwrapped short rows
This technique is simple to master and leaves no gaps in either the toe or the heel.
Shape the toe per the text instructions in Sock Wizard.
Once you begin to turn the toe, you will be working a variation of SSK and P2tog.
I want to thank Linda Skolnik for giving this stitch a name.
Right Side Facing
KCGS (Knit-Close-Gap-Stitch)
Slip the next stitch knitwise onto right needle. Insert right needle purlwise in the right leg of the stitch on the row below slipped stitch on the left needle.
In the diagram, you can see that the needle is inserted into the vertical bar of the stitch below. Lift the bar onto the needle.
Insert left needle point through the front loops of the two stitches (the picked up stitch and the slipped stitch) on the right needle, and knit them together. KCGS complete.
Wrong Side Facing
PCGS (Purl-Close-Gap-Stitch)
Slip next stitch pulwise onto right needle. Insert right needle point into the purl bump from top to bottom on the row below slipped stitch on the left needle.
Lift the bump onto the right needle.
Insert left needle point through back loops of the first two stitches on the right needle, picked up stitch and slipped stitch, and p2tog. PCGS complete.
