The color toolbar is visible when the Color Button is depressed.
To draw with color, Click the Draw On Grid Button 
Click on one of the color rectangles.
The rectangle will be bordered in white and the color will appear in the box at the top right of the screen next to the stitch and row coordinates.
Move mouse to grid and begin to draw on the grid.
